Great Barrier Reef, Cooktown, Australia

Shock! 11 June 1770 our ship “the Endeavour” struck a reef at what is today called the Endeavour Reef – a part of the Great Barrier Reef. Our ship was seriously damaged, the carpenters and blacksmiths had a lot of work to do. Meanwhile Captain Cook and his scientific crew explored parts of "Terra Australis Incognita" before they left their temporary port – the Endeavour River. Nowadays, the place there is called Cooktown.
